The Halve Waste Schools Program is being kicked off in October 2010 in primary schools in the Corowa, Greater Hume Shire and Albury City Local Government Area’s.

Keep Australia Beautiful

Halve Waste has partnered with Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) and the Riverina and Murray Regional Organisation of Councils (RAMROC) to provide waste education workshops to 9 schools in October: Albury West, Thurgoona, Corowa, Corowa South, Mulwala, St Marys' Primary, Brocklesby, Mullengandra, and St John’s Lutheran School.

The workshops titled the ‘Wide World of Waste’ will target ways everyone can contribute to the Halve Waste campaign.

‘Wide World of Waste’ is one of several education modules offered by KAB under their primary schools education program called ‘Waste Watchers’.

In the ‘Wide World of Waste’ workshops, students are asked to analyse potential waste items and consider how to avoid creating waste in the first place.

Landfill capacity and pollution issues are investigated and reduce, reuse and recycle strategies are emphasised. How to achieve the Halve Waste Goals will be central.

Students are encouraged to teach others the new information they have learned.

The KAB workshops in October will be followed up with an additional program of workshops in February and April 2011 at other schools in the Albury City, City of Wodonga, Towong Shire and Indigo Shire Local Government Area’s.
