In April 2010 a waste audit was conducted on a sample of household garbage bins in the Albury area. The audit revealed that approximately 15% of what is contained in the average garbage bin can be recycled by the current kerbside recycling service.

The NSW and Victorian Governments have set state domestic recycling targets of 66% for NSW and 65% for Victoria to be achieved by the year 2014. That is less than 4 years away and all local government areas are falling well short of these targets.
